It's del.icio.us! It's del.ight.ful! It's del.ove.ly!

Now we're on to something! I love del.icio.us! At last there's something where those all-important bookmarks will follow me around wherever I go! I often needed my bookmarks at home and couldn't get to them. Then I'd delete some old bookmarks at the Help Desk and when I logged in on my office computer, they were back again! Aaargh!

Now with del.icio.us those bookmarks follow me everywhere. And I can organize them by tags, even multiple ones! And should I decide to delete one, it will not come back to haunt me everytime I logon to a different computer.

I tried out a few search engines, too. I liked Clusty best, but I also loved Vivisimo, and Clusty looks like the newer version.

Web 2.0 and Such

Well, I kinda get the idea of Web 2.0, what it's supposed to be and all, but I do find it difficult to believe that there is really going to be this sense of community, everybody helping everyone else, etc. Come on, our society was built on the idea of competition! Winner take all!

And as far as MySpace pages in libraries? Not sure about that on either. Well, maybe it might be more appealing to the younger set. Me, I don't even have a MySpace page and wouldn't know how to get one. Isn't that just for meeting people?

Still, I do think it's a valuable thing for libraries to reach out to their public and try and connect with them. Maybe libraries do need to meet people. Certainly looking around our library I can see a big change in what the students are using (MySpace) or needing for their studies (everything online). It might be a way to communicate with our public.

I arrive. Not without a struggle.

You might ask yourself, "Who is this person who finally gets it together 3 weeks later?" That'd be me. Yes, sir. I wasn't exactly kicking and screaming, but come on, who has time to blog anyway? And who has time to read all the word dribbles that they call blogging. I mean, do I really care what someone I don't even know did over the weekend? That they swept the driveway and took the kids to the park. That their car needs to go into the shop and that they're planning a vacation to Yosemite???? I'd much rather talk to someone in person. (Besides, Blogger just didn't like me and it took forever to get this far. )

I have therefore signed in as Ned Ludd, famed leader of the Luddites, those brave and hardy Englishmen who started smashing machinery during the Industrial Revolution. They were the first crusaders against automation and symbolize anyone who, like me, has a fear or disinterest in the rapidly changing world of technology. I do love my computer and my email, but I have some serious doubts about this other stuff.

But I digress, Dear Reader. I should really start out as my perky usual self. I am going to think positive! I am going to take on this challenge, become a Web 2.0 convert, and win the BIG PRIZE!!! (So J. Balls, you snooze, you lose!)

Look out world! Here I come!
